Recently joint tests took place between The Open University and TUM in Garching, Germany.
Pictured above: The integrated instrument in the thermal vacuum chamber. The drill is mounted on a linear guide to allow the drilling, heating and gas extraction in simulated lunar conditions.
Simon Sheridan and Craig Pitcher visited from The OU and brought the Volatiles Analyser to mate it to the Volatiles Sampler for integrated thermal vacuum testing.
Pictured above: OU Scientist Dr. Simon Sheridan calibrating the Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer in front of the thermal vacuum chamber.
The tests successfully demonstrated the release and detection of water and other volatiles from a simulated lunar sample and signify a major milestone for project LUVMI.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
